SNAR
HUNFELD
Snar has been painting for over 25 years, with a passion that grows as time proceeds. Graduating from the Royal Academy of Art in 2001, his career has been, if anything, unpredictable. Which led to the conclusion that Snar channels his boundless creativity into not only painting but also directing, writing and concepting, merging these disciplines to push the boundaries of his artistic expression.
In the moment.
Snar's Neo-expressionistic paintings are about making the right decision at the right time—a single choice in a singular moment. Everything hinges on that moment. Any underlying themes or conceptual layers are secondary to the inspiration of that instant.
As a result, Snar sometimes works on a painting for weeks or months on end, often dedicating only half an hour a day. For these moments of creative bursts are fleeting; they do not linger.
This approach is reminiscent of how the Beat Generation tackled their proseand poetry, embracing a constant stream of subconscious creativity. Snar similarly channels his inspiration directly onto the canvas. This does not mean his paintings lack intellectual depth—on the contrary, they are rich with poetic references, philosophical messages and art-historical influences. It does mean that he relies fully on his skills as an artist to be creatively free, trusting on his mind and hands to do what they are supposed to do.
And often, they do.
